Famicon Express books

The other day Good Grief! received the bumper load from Famicon Express books of Brighton. As you can see, they're pretty sweet. Easy the best books I never knew existed from the UK. Feast on...

2by2 by Jonathan Chandler. A set of three books beautifully presented. Sparse black and white drawings and words, abstract scenes, strange conversation. A must for fans of ink and paper. 20 pages + 20 pages +12 pages. £10

SSS by Kitty Clark and GHXYK2. Spook Success Story! Other wordly conversation between a tree and a dark cloud/ghost/black mass. Topics include ghosts, spells and life in general. Very great, really nice package with splendid black and white drawings. £3.50

Bad Boys by Leon Sadler. Very funnily drawn and worded book about a big baby-like mute head and three little helpers/terrors. I love this. 20 pages 14cm x 20cm. 2008. £3

Whales and Wonders by David Steans and Hardeep Pandhal. Project book bound by a GOLD plated chain, insane. Really nice package of a 16 page 14cm x 20cm book with A3 colour fold out poster and short essay. Great whale-based drawings. Edition of 30. £5

Mega Macerator by Massimiliano Bomber and Leon Sadler with GHXYK2. An "Anglo-Italo mega-mush"! Collection of drawings and comics, a mix of black and white photocopy and various colour risograph prints on different paper stocks. Edition of 60, we've just got ONE COPY. £5.50

Roudy and the Insects by Leon Sadler. Another funny comic from Leon Sadler, this time it's all about the big clumsy nice guy Roudy and the cute at first glance insects. Classique! 32 pages, 14cm x 20cm. £4

Uh-oh, Leon just upped the P&P TLC by about 1000% Imagine if everyone who sends me a parcel drew Charlie Brown on it, imagine! I am actively encouraging it.

By the way, an online shop is still in the works but if anyone from anywhere is interested in purchasing any books from what they've seen on here, just send me an email detailing what you're after and I'll price you up.

Stock o'clock

A new things continuation from yesterday, some slightly better instore snaps. Taken earlier this evening...

Good Vs. Evil Magazine #4. All star zine featuring the work of a good many class acts from around the globe. This issue's theme is Man Vs. Woman so expect it to be hideously kinky. £4

GIFTS by Jess Higgins. Jess sums up the content (plus photos) better than I ever could here on her blog. Safe for me to say though that is a triumphant parcel with a great short story and a great many other great things. Click the photo above to read my analog instore description. £3.50

Zine by French illustrationaire extraordinaire, Shoboshobo, brought to you by Good Vs.Evil zine's all new publishing imprint. The drawings are FABULOUS, you can see that by looking at them above. Curiously wall based with a variety of human sprawlings. Fully colour. £5.50

Gloriously deep photocopied collage painty freshness from Faye Johnson. Things are not as they appear in "Through These Eyes", a dog disguised as a chair? WHAATTTTTT. Lovely and big and great. £4

Baby-based fiction from me, David Bailey, it's a bit silly but then we are in a recession. Not suitable for babies. £1.50 - one copy left - dunno about a reprint

Pistol Whip #1 and #2 by Ben Mather. Real nice english reappropriation and unappropriation from the best illustrator in Wigan. Masking taped out, photocopied up and biro heavy. You may have been served by Ben if you attended the recent zine fair in Preston at which we stall sat together. Small world! £2

Posters by Rebecca Crompton. Make your wall about 1,000 times classier with these posters. TO DIE FOR, prices range from £1.50 - £3.

Greetings cards by Rebecca Crompton! So great, so fitting...for every occasion! It's Valentine's day coming up soon and there's ten different designs so you can get a different card for your Mum AND your Dad. Everybody's happy. I love these cards, I'm happy. £2.50 each

Stupid/classic t-shirts screenprinted by my good Dad. Designs by stupid/classic me. It's 2010!!!!!! Everyone's wearing a shirt with the legend emblazoned upon it, 2010!!! Be the first! WHASSSSSSSUP! Everybody's saying it! A man living inside a skill!! We've all been there!! £10 in all the sizes, some colour variants to boot.

Good Grief! tote bag. Advertise me! £4

That's enough new stuff for now, shortly forthcoming is a little piece on some older things and a blog on the motherload that just landed from the oustanding Famicon Express. Unreal, it's all the shop now. Cometh. Photo's below of the shop's current state...

The Latest

Sunday, Sunday, the day before Monday. A day of closure for Good Grief but a day of reflection and hastily taken photographs of recent arrivals. Observe the results below with hasty descriptions to fit the hasty depictions. Longer, laboured, longing looks to follow with more photos of new stock, perhaps tomorrow? Come visit me in the shop to breathe it all fully in.

A Very Kraftwerk Summer, by Christopher Hutsul. One of three excellent books Good Grief is carrying on the very lovely Koyama Press, all the way from Canadia. Young boy hangs out with Kraftwerk for the summer, has German inflicted jollies. Laughter and "oh that's perfect" moments ensue. Screenprinted cover on crazy woodlike paper, £6

Timeless tale of Old Man and the Lake by Manchester-based illustrator, Rebecca Crompton. Beautiful format and I can't get enough of these drawings and words. One loves it. £3

Good Grief! has both issues of Bolton comic master, Rob Jackson's TOTALLY AMAZING Great Deeds Against the Dead. A funny horror comic about an old artist who loses his mind and takes heed from the talking paintings of his dead wife, all this and so much more. I was on a knife edge 'til Rob dropped off #2 and now I can sleep again at night. £2.50 for each issue.

French black and white psychedelic noodler, heavy black mass and quite funny in places. £6

The first of three books we be stocking by Manchester-BASED illustrator, Faye Johnson. THE ROYAL HIGHWAY TO THE UNCONSCIOUS MIND. To leaf it is to love it. Streams of conscious, unconscious and subconscious scat with labelling that I'm a big big fan of. Beeyootiful painted illustrations. £5

This book comes at us from the hands of Canada-dwelling screenprinting and drawing expert, Jesjit Gill. This being his new project, Cave Mind, an all-screenprinted affair with pages from a load of hi-end artists such as Tetsunori Tawaraya, Michael Deforge, Seripop, Keith Herzik, Ryan Duggan, Steph Davidson and many möregåsbord. A real piece. £14
Hey look at this, an actual photo from my actual lounge. The poster in the frame is just one of the many Rebecca Crompton posters you can now snap up at Good Grief, prices start from £1.50 and go up to £3. This drawing is nominated for an Oscar this year and will probably win. We also have GREEEEEETINGS CARDS from Rebecca which are about the best Greetings cards I've seen, I'll be buying them for upcoming birthdays, you should too. Photogs forthcoming.

There's been stuff in the shop that's flown out before I got chance to blog my socks off about. Such things include two awesome screenprinted books by Dylan Hughes, FreeDrawings free newspapers from Jesjit Gill - they were free and amazing big broadsheet size pages of various artists' work, hence why they went FAST.

New things that haven't sold out include Good vs. Evil zine #4 (£6), PictureBox stuffs (new blog on these forthcoming also), many posters by the aforementioned Rebecca Crompton, Faye Johnson, Mount Pleasant and Savage Wolf. New audible goods from Irma Vep, Klaus Kinski, Married to the Sea, Leveret, Obsidian Pond, Golden Lab Records. New wearable goods from my Dad, screenprinted with my designs (t-shirts £10), tote bags (£4) also. This is a list. Choose to do what ye might with this information.

Thank you
