John Butcher prints and more

The above are very special screenprints with added pencil, pen and collage by the best markmaker in Manchester, John Butcher aka Alex Humphreys. Each one is a real one off, different colours, different drawings and marks, basically the bargain of the Teens(the Tens? the Tweens?) so far at just £4 each. We have ten prints (roughly a5 in size) adorning the wall, I'll be sad to see them all go but go they must...DIG DEEP! They're shrinkwrapped too hence the shine and none too perfect photographic depictions above.

More a5 classic prints below by Manchester illustrator, Craig John Barr, each a run of twenty. Fine linework, fine subject matter : Neil Young, Charles Schulz and Twin Peaks. Three of the biggest legends in showbusiness. £3 each

Next up, Laura Skilbeck, also of Manchester, kicks it via her continuous inking system and via some sweet illustrations with these prints below and more instore. £4 for the A3 prints and £6 for the ice cream screenprinted teatowel - act fast on that though, only one left!

Here's a quick blitz of the shop classics that have previously gone unblogged...

ARKO PLEX by Rasmus Svensson, probably my favourite zine from Cafe Royal. Each spread is a total bonanza of tweaked perspectives, pencilled patterns and textures and bizarro scenes. Classique. £3.50

Turbochainsaw 5, UK compendium of illustration and ARGHustration from all places including Alexander Binder, Liquidpig, Maya Bloch, Craig Scott, Cazzimir M, Jon Vaughn, Debbie Sharples, Nathan Appel and more. Crude. £6

Mediocralypse by Gareth Brookes (Banal Pig of London). Handprinted cover containing fun short skits and scats on a number of subjects. Worth it for the messed up Grandad confession above alone. £3

Gin Palace, comic anthology curated by and starring Bolton comic wizard, Rob Jackson (creator of the outstanding Great Deeds Against the Dead series). A good many other comic talents feature including Francesca Cassavetti (pictured above), Dave Hughes, Jarod Rosello and more. £2.50

Lots more new arrivals and recent arrivals have yet to be blogged, stay tuned for that or come in and see them in real life...IMAGINE!

MOUNT PLEASANT (1982 - Present)

LUCY JONES and DAVID BAILEY have been MOUNT PLEASANT for as long as
anyone can remember, at least since the dawn of the internet, at
least.

They really are a MIRACULOUS duo; grown from the hotbed of creativity
that is MMU's Illustration Department, they have, over the last decade
or so, gone about forgetting everything they were ever taught (apart
from that pearl of wisdom about sending all your clients a bottle of
wine with your latest masterpiece as a label every Christmas) and are
re-writing the rule book (however loose it may be) of ART.

DAVID BAILEY has the uncommon ability to make the mundane, routine and
everyday seem hilarious, striking and truly original. A pioneer in
the world of GIBBERISH art, David's more recent works rely as much on
words of STAGGERING hilarity as they do on the ever-present EXQUISITE
pen and pencil work. Something noteworthy about David's work is the
LIBRAIC collection of font-types he can hold within his brain;
staggering too is the ability to know exactly which set of HEAVEN SENT
letters fits the purpose, time and place.

David's work transcends categorisation or galleries or time or place
or person; he works on his own time, in his own gallery and for own
self.

LUCY JONES has many uncommon abilities too, there isn't that many
people who could pack a whole novel's worth of complexities, twists
and turns into a single shape or line.

Lucy refuses to stand still within her work, constantly looking for
new mediums to work within, often the trial and error nature of these
explorations leads to even more EXCITING and STRIKING results. The
commitment and VERVE Lucy applies to her work are rarely seen in real
life and in real time, they belong more in a book archiving an
artist's whole career or a film charting the progression of a whole
movement, but here she is in real life and in real time.

LONG LIVE MOUNT PLEASANT.

Now the term "visual feast" is often overused these days but this book is an insane VISUAL FEAST! Cover to cover image overload with no text or why fors or who bys (bar one page of artist listings in the middle). It's a wild mix of drawing, painting, photogs and collage all mashed together with 1,000 experts eyes. It's a real beauty of a book and one of my favourite things to drop in to Good Grief! so far. Check out the artist list above, it's a veritable who's who of that's hot. Copies arrived today and I just had to bloggit. Further blogs forthcoming on recent arrivals.
